In 1981, Chongqing Engine Plant started to license-produce Cummins engines, and in 1995, it jointly established a Chinese joint venture engine factory with Cummins.
The Cummins ISLe 270-30 engine, with a 6-cylinder in-line configuration and an 8.9L displacement, is used in Dongfeng Trucks, heavy trucks, buses, vans, commercial vehicles, and power packs. It delivers 201 kW (270 HP) at 2100 rpm and a maximum torque of 1050 N·m at 1100-1700 rpm. The engine incorporates turbocharging, charge air cooling, and a Bosch Common Rail fuel system with an ECM governor. It has a 16.6:1 compression ratio, fuel consumption of 210 g/kW·h at rated power, and can operate up to 4500 m in altitude. Certified to Euro III standards, it can start at temperatures as low as -12℃ without auxiliary systems and has a cooling fluid volume of 11.1L.
