Cummins in China
Since 1979.
The first Cummins office in China was established in Beijing in 1979. Since then, Cummins has started localized engine production in China. In 1981, Chongqing Engine Plant started to license Cummins engines, and in 1995, it established a joint venture engine plant with Cummins in China.
Cummins has a total of 37 facilities in China, including 26 manufacturing companies with more than 13,000 employees producing engines, gensets, alternators, turbocharging systems, emission treatment systems, fuel systems, hydrogen manufacturing, storage and fuel cells; 18 provincial-level customer support centers, and more than 3,000 authorized dealers for Cummins and joint venture systems.
For more than four decades, Cummins has formed six engine joint ventures with leading Chinese companies, including Dongfeng Motor Group, Chongqing Machinery & Electronics Holding (Group) Co. Ltd. , Shaanxi Automobile Holdings Limited, BAIC Foton Automobile Co., Ltd, Liugong Machinery Co., Ltd. and JAC Motors. Cummins has produced 19 of its 24 engine families locally in China, and its sales in China (including joint ventures) reached $6.5 billion in 2024.
Chongqing Cummins Engine Co., Ltd. (CCEC)
The M11/QSM11, X12/13, Z13, NT855/QSN, M15, K19/QSK19, K38/QSK38 and K50/QSK50 Series.
CCEC is a Sino-US joint venture established in 1995, which is the starting point of Cummins' localized production in China and the earliest engine joint venture, as well as the backbone of the Chinese parent company - Chongqing Machinery & Electronics Holding (Group) Co. Ltd.
CCEC, as the only high-horsepower engine R&D and manufacturing base of Cummins in China, specializes in the production of diesel engines and natural gas engines, with a power range of 185-3650 hp, including M11/QSM11, X12/13, Z13, NT855/QSN, M15, K19/QSK19, K38/QSK38 and K50/QSK50. The series products are suitable for heavy-duty vehicles, construction machinery, mining machinery, petroleum machinery, rail machinery, harbor machinery, stationary and mobile diesel generator sets, ship propulsion power units and auxiliary power units, pump power units and other power units.
Dongfeng Cummins Engine Co., Ltd. (DCEC)
The B/C/D/L/M/Z series, natural gas engines and WinDynamic AMT automatic gearboxes.
DCEC located in High-tech Industrial Development Zone of Xiangyang City, Hubei Province, is a modernized medium and heavy-duty engine manufacturing company jointly built by China's mega automobile enterprise Dongfeng Motor Co. and Cummins Inc. of the U.S.A. in the ratio of 50:50. In 1986, Dongfeng Motor Group signed a license agreement with Cummins Inc. of the U.S.A. for the production of B series engines, and in June 1996, Dongfeng Motor Group.
DCEC mainly produces B/C/D/L/M/Z series diesel and natural gas engines and WinDynamic AMT automatic gearboxes, and designs and manufactures Cummins 120-680 hp automotive engines and 80-770 hp non-automotive engines, with displacements ranging from 2.5 liters to 15 liters, which are widely used in the fields of light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks, medium and high-class inter-city buses, medium and large-sized public transportation buses, construction machinery, marine main and auxiliary engines, generator sets, and so on. It is widely used in light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles, medium and high-class intercity buses, large and medium-sized buses and coaches, construction machinery, marine main and auxiliary engines, and generator sets. Through integration and optimization, Dongfeng Cummins has reached an annual production capacity of 230,000 engines.
Xi'an Cummins Engine Co., Ltd. (XCEC)

Xi'an Cummins Engine Co., Ltd, located in Xi'an, the ancient cultural capital of China with a long history, is a 50:50 joint venture between Cummins Inc. , an independent engine manufacturer, and Shaanxi Automobile Holdings Limited, a mega automobile enterprise in China.
XCEC mainly produces and sells ISM11 / M13 / M15 series engines and off-road QSM11 products that meet the National V (Euro V) and National VI emission requirements. Meanwhile, as a unified interface between Cummins Inc. and Shaanxi Automobile Holdings Limited, XCEC is responsible for the matching and sales of Cummins 2.5-15 liter diesel and natural gas engines and power chains in Shaanxi Automobile Group to meet the needs of global users in different market segments and working conditions.
Beijing Foton Cummins Engine Co., Ltd. (BFCEC)

Beijing Foton Cummins Engine Co., Ltd. was established in 2008 as a 50:50 joint venture between Cummins Inc., the world's leading provider of power solutions, and Beiqi Foton Automobile Company Limited, a Chinese commercial vehicle company, to produce light, medium and heavy-duty diesel engines. The products include Cummins F-series 2.8-liter and 3.8-liter light-duty, F-series 4.5-liter medium-duty, and X-series X11, X12, X13, X11 engineered and X12N natural gas heavy-duty engines.
Cummins F series of fully electronically controlled light-duty diesel engines have the inherent advantages of Cummins' basic platform, which integrates the advanced research and development strengths of Cummins' U.S. R&D headquarters, European R&D centers, and Cummins' China Technology Center to jointly create the F series of light-duty diesel engines. Cummins ISF3.8 liter electronically controlled engine, power up to nearly 170 horsepower, maximum torque up to 600 Nm, is the strongest power in its class. M, which is a powerful, lightweight and small engine in the same class. Cummins ISF4.5 liter engine, based on Cummins' globally popular B-series platform, is a mature and successful diesel engine series of Cummins, spanning more than 20 years and with a global ownership of more than 5 million units. ISF4.5 has a maximum power of up to 210 hp and a maximum torque of 760 Nm, with a high torque at low speeds, and is higher than its competitors in the whole speed range.
Cummins X-series inline six-cylinder ultra-high-pressure direct-injection engine is Cummins' global heavy-duty engine platform, with a power range of 280 - 560 hp and peak torque of 2,600 Nm. It is equipped with Cummins' XPI ultra-high-pressure fuel injection technology, MFS brand-new one-piece machine plus high-efficiency turbocharger, and high-high-horsepower one-piece steel piston, which is energy-saving, reliable and durable. Guangxi Cummins Industrial Power Co., Ltd. is an exclusive diesel engine production enterprise for construction machinery set up by Cummins, a global engine power equipment manufacturer, in China. With a total investment of over 1 billion RMB and a designed annual capacity of 100,000 units, the project is one of the diesel engine production bases for construction machinery in China.
The company produces B series and L series of medium horsepower engines with displacement ranging from 6.7-9.3L, which comply with off-road Stage III and Stage IV emission regulations.
